Apache Ladies one win away from nationals

Tyler Junior College is down one match, but they are not out of the Region XIV Volleyball Tournament.

The Apache Ladies lost their first match of the tournament on Saturday in a 3-1 decision against San Jacinto Junior College, the No. 1 ranked Division I team in the country. San Jac won 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-16.

But a win against conference rival Paris Junior College on Sunday will guarantee TJC a trip to the national tournament and give them another shot at San Jacinto for the regional title.

The national tournament is Nov. 15-17 in West Plains, Mo.

Paris and TJC play in the loser’s bracket at noon today at Lee College in Baytown. The winner of that game is scheduled to play San Jacinto at 2 p.m.

TJC (ranked No. 6 in the nation) has yet to play Paris in this tournament, but defeated the Lady Dragons twice during the regular season. Paris fell to Blinn in the first round on Thursday, but the Lady Dragons got revenge on Saturday.
