Lady Raiders beat Huntsville
LUFKIN — Brooke Johnston scored two goals to lead the Robert E. Lee Lady Raiders to a 4-2 win over Huntsville on Friday in the Lady Pack Soccer Showcase.
Johnston also added an assist for the 4-2 Lady Raiders. Betsy Arellano and Julia Harrison scored goals for REL, while Arellano and Kendall Bullock each had assists.
“We didn’t play great and we still won, which is a good thing,†REL coach Chris Woodard said. “We have been playing well, but we were not as sharp today.â€
The Lady Raiders play again today at 1 p.m. against Nacogdoches. The contest is scheduled for Jase Majors Field, which is adjacent to Abe Martin Stadium.
Lady Lions tie Nacogdoches
LUFKIN — John Tyler and Nacogdoches played out a 0-0 draw at the Lady Pack Soccer Showcase on Friday afternoon.
Goalkeeper Rebecca Renteria held together the clean sheet for the Lady Lions.
In JV action, JT defeated Huntsville 1-0, with Erica Carmona doing the scoring.
JT varsity resumes play in the tournament at 10 a.m. today against Longview.
Red Raiders fall to Kilgore
LONGVIEW — Robert E. Lee dropped its second match in as many days, 1-0, to Kilgore Friday at the Longview Soccer Tournament at Lobo Stadium.
Lee coach Marty Germany said the Red Raiders (3-2) played without a couple starters, including leading scorer Lumi Kaba, and it caused some offensive woes for a team that had averaged over three goals per game.
Kilgore grabbed the only goal of the contest on a free kick that knuckled past Lee keeper Henry Plancarte.
REL will face Mount Pleasant at 12:30 p.m. today at Longview Soccer Complex.
