Lady Raiders beat Huntsville

LUFKIN — Brooke Johnston scored two goals to lead the Robert E. Lee Lady Raiders to a 4-2 win over Huntsville on Friday in the Lady Pack Soccer Showcase.

Johnston also added an assist for the 4-2 Lady Raiders. Betsy Arellano and Julia Harrison scored goals for REL, while Arellano and Kendall Bullock each had assists.

“We didn’t play great and we still won, which is a good thing,” REL coach Chris Woodard said. “We have been playing well, but we were not as sharp today.”

The Lady Raiders play again today at 1 p.m. against Nacogdoches. The contest is scheduled for Jase Majors Field, which is adjacent to Abe Martin Stadium.

Goalkeeper Rebecca Renteria held together the clean sheet for the Lady Lions.

In JV action, JT defeated Huntsville 1-0, with Erica Carmona doing the scoring.

JT varsity resumes play in the tournament at 10 a.m. today against Longview.

Red Raiders fall to Kilgore

LONGVIEW — Robert E. Lee dropped its second match in as many days, 1-0, to Kilgore Friday at the Longview Soccer Tournament at Lobo Stadium.

Lee coach Marty Germany said the Red Raiders (3-2) played without a couple starters, including leading scorer Lumi Kaba, and it caused some offensive woes for a team that had averaged over three goals per game.

Kilgore grabbed the only goal of the contest on a free kick that knuckled past Lee keeper Henry Plancarte.

REL will face Mount Pleasant at 12:30 p.m. today at Longview Soccer Complex.
