KILGORE — Robert E. Lee senior Lumi Kaba registered his first varsity hat trick in a 6-0 romp over Marshall Saturday at R.E. St. John Stadium.

It was the third game in as many days for the Red Raiders (3-0) who went unbeaten in the Michael Merritt Memorial Showcase, outscoring their opponents 14-1.

“I don’t remember the last time we started a season with three wins and we played these teams last year,” said Lee coach Marty Germany.

Along with Kaba, freshman Keegan McCombie grabbed his first and second goals of the season and Tito Arroyo scored his second in three games.

Assists were by Kaba, Arroyo, Noel Aparicio, Giovanni Sosa, Mikey Wilkins and Isaias Robles.

The Red Raiders play their home opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Nacogdoches. It will also be the first Lee plays a regular-season game at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

Lady Raiders close out weekend with win

FORT WORTH — Lee junior Erika Gooding provided the only goal her team would need in a 1-0 victory Saturday morning over Fort Worth Hockaday.

It was REL’s fourth game in three days as part of the Nolan Catholic Prep Showcase. After 2-1 losses to Odessa Permian and Nolan, the Lady Raiders closed the weekend with a 2-1 win over Lubbock Monterey before Saturday’s first clean sheet of the season.

“It was a good way to end (the weekend), with a couple of wins,” said Lee coach Chris Woodard. “And we looked good in the process (today). We knocked the ball around a little better.”

Kendall Bullock provided the pass to Gooding just outside the box and the defender scored from a difficult angle. It was a first clean sheet from the goal keeping tandem of Madi McCann and Alyson Johnston.

Lee (2-2) will next compete in the Lady Pack Soccer Showcase, which begins Thursday in Lufkin.
