The UT Tyler women’s soccer team will head into next week’s American Southwest Conference Championships on a high-note, having won nine of their last 10 games, including an 8-0 thrashing of Schreiner on Saturday night in the Patriots’ finale to wrap-up their historic best-ever regular season.
Before a packed homecoming crowd at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex, the Patriots (14-4, 11-1 ASC) unleashed an offensive assault on the Mountaineers, combining for 36 shots while allowing Schreiner only a single shot in the shutout.
All eight UT Tyler goals were scored by different players, with the first coming just 1:54 into the match when Nikki Gordon assisted Jordan Johnson.
Along with Gordon, Charity Shipman, Kayla Akin and Amanda Weaver also scored in the first half to give the Patriots a 5-0 advantage at the break.
Jessica Steinhoff, Carrie West and Savanna Seachord each found the back of the net in the second half to give the Patriots the 8-0 shutout.
For Weaver, Steinhoff, West and Seachord, the goals were their firsts of the season.
The Patriots, who have now outscored opponents 53-10 on the season and 19-1 in their last five games, will go into the ASC Championships as the No. 2 seed. UT Tyler’s only loss came in overtime to top seed and tournament host Hardin-Simmons.
The tournament begins Friday in Abilene. The Patriots’ game time and opponent is to be determined.
