The Cayuga LadyCats over-came an outstanding first-quarter performance by Overton’s Heather Raney to capture a 63-54 victory in a Class 1A girls basketball bi-district playoff Tuesday at Tyler Junior College’s Wag-staff Gymnasium.

Raney, who finished with a game-high 24 points, scored all 14 points for the Lady Mustangs to power her team to a 14-13 lead.

Madison Spears and Shawnta Knox scored all 12 of Cayuga’s second period points to give their team a 25-19 lead at intermission.

The LadyCats surged from halftime with an 11-2 run and led by 15 (36-21) on a basket by Molly Griffey with just over two minutes left in the third stanza.

Overton could only get within five points in the second half — 57-52 — on Abby Mackey’s bucket with 47 seconds left to play.

Besides Raney’s 24 points, Mackey added 12 and Jiamesia Young and Savannah Bobbitt each contributed seven. Young had eight rebounds for Overton.

Cayuga was led in scoring by Spears (18 points), while Knox had 12 points and 13 rebounds.
