The Robert E. Lee Lady Raiders ended their season on Tuesday night with a thrilling 60-55 victory over Rockwall-Heath at the REL Varsity Gymnasium.

The Lady Raiders finished the season at 14-19 overall and 4-8 in District 12-5A girls basketball play.

The game went down to the final seconds of the game, with the Lady Raiders getting some fortunate late-game bounces that went their way.

Senior Ciara Johnson led the way in her final game for the Lady Raiders, scoring a game-high 26 points. She shot 6 for 11 from the free-throw line.

Lee coach Lloyd Mahaffey said he was happy to see Johnson put an exclamation mark at the end of her time with the Lady Raiders.

“I’m really happy for CJ. She’s had some great games over the last four years,” he said. “She’s going to be missed and I am glad she was able to leave tonight with a good score in the book.”

Emem David also contributed to the Lee effort with 12 points. She was perfect from the free-throw line, sinking six out of six.

Mahaffey also expressed happiness in ending the season with a win, but knows there’s work to be done.

“I feel great about getting a win at the end of the season. It gives us a note to work on and some place to go in the offseason,” he said. “We have lots of work to accomplish for next year, but I’m really proud of the girls for how hard they worked tonight.”
