HS Hoops Roundup, Jan. 29: Lobos pull away to beat Lee, 51-37

LONGVIEW — The Longview Lobos scored 18 points from the free-throw line to take down Robert E. Lee, 51-37, Tuesday at Lobo Coliseum.

The Red Raiders trailed by three points entering the fourth after a slow start, but could not close the gap in the final frame.

“It was a physical game and we were just ice cold,” Lee coach Alan Johnston said. “We were forced to foul and they made their free throws.”

The loss is Lee’s second in a row in District 12-5A and drops the Red Raiders to 5-4 in league play and 18-9 overall.

Longview moves to 16-12 and 7-2.

CARROLLTON — Cori Schnell scored a game-high 24 points to help Carrollton Prince of Peace pull away in the second half and beat Grace Community 61-41 on Tuesday in a girls game.

The game was 34-31 until it got away from the Lady Cougars, though coach Robyn Welch praised her team’s play through adversity.

“Tonight the Lady Cougars played as one — one team, one heart, one purpose,” she said. “Captain Rebekah Provines played intensely. Captain Catherine Rook came off a finger injury and played hard. Freshman Parker Daughtry played with poise and Kylie Stinson came off the bench and dominated.”

Stinson led Grace with 10 points while Daughtry had nine. The captains both scored four points, with Provines supplying seven rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Grace Community won the boys game against Prince of Peace, 67-62.
