Three players finished in double figures scoring to lead Rockwall past Robert E. Lee, 60-50, in District 12-5A girls basketball Tuesday night at the REL Varsity Gymnasium.

Senior Hannah Hughes provided 15 points and junior Ellen Baker and sophomore Sara Williamson added 14 each for the Lady Jackets, who improved to 21-8 on the season and 7-2 in district. Senior Morghen Day contributed 12 points.

Senior Ciara Johnson finished with a game-high 18 points to lead the Lady Raiders, who fell to 13-16 overall and 3-5 in district.

Playing without Johnson, Lee fell 59-28 to Rockwall in the first meeting between the teams.

“I’m disappointed, but the kids came out and played hard,” Lady Raiders coach Lloyd Mahaffey said. “But we cut (21 points) off the deficit from the last time they beat us. The girls felt like they could get this one; we just came up a little short.”

Rockwall never trailed after falling behind 8-7 with 3:31 left in the first quarter and increased the advantage to 13 points in the second quarter, but entered the break ahead by only eight after Johnson scored five points in the final 10 seconds.

Lee pulled to within 31-25 on a Johnson basket with 5:20 left in the third quarter, but Hughes and Baker drained back-to-back 3-pointers to make it a 12-point game with 5:40 to go. Williamson then scored to increase Lady Jackets’ advantage to 51-37 with 5:10 remaining.

“Good teams are able to do that and Rockwall is a really good team,” Mahaffey said. “They play really well and play hard.”

Junior Emem David and sophomore Tree Brooks had nine points and eight points, respectively, for Lee, which entered the night with back-to-back wins after dropping three consecutive games. The Lady Raiders travel to Mesquite on Friday.

Williamson finished the night with a game-high eight rebounds for Rockwall, whose only district losses have been to Mesquite and Mesquite Horn. Rockwall plays host to North Mesquite on Friday.
