Tyler Junior College plays host to Trinity Valley Community College in a key Region XIV basketball doubleheader Saturday at Wagstaff Gymnasium.
The women play at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m.
The TJC men enter with a mark of 13-4 overall and 4-3 in league play, while TVCC is 13-6 and 4-4.
DeAndre Harris leads the Apaches, averaging 14.6 points per game, while Ta’Jon Welcome is second at 13.7. Daniel Edozie and Trevor Berkeley are two of the top rebounders in the league at 7.3 and 7.2, respectively.
Josh Gentry and Octavius Ellis lead TVCC in scoring at 11.5 and 11.1, respectively.
Dominique Ellis tops the league in rebounding at 8.5.
The TJC women are 8-9 and 1-3, while the Lady Cardinals are 17-1 and 4-0.
Shernise Robertson leads Tyler in scoring at 17.8, while Adut Bulgak tops Trinity Valley at 16.4 ppg.
Trinity Valley is ranked No. 3 in the nation. Hutchinson (Kan.) is No. 1, followed by North Idaho.
UT TYLER PLAYS LETOURNEAU
The UT Tyler basketball teams start a string of six consecutive home dates Saturday at the Herrington Patriot Center.
The Patriots play host to rival LeTourneau. The women play at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3 p.m.
The Patriot women are 5-5 in American Southwest Conference play, while the LadyJackets are 3-7. Overall, UT Tyler is 10-6 and LeTourneau is 6-10.
It is also a key men’s game as both the Patriots and Yellowjackets are 6-4 in ASC play. Overall, UT Tyler is 11-5, while LeTourneau is 7-9.
All four clubs are fighting to finish in the top four in the ASC East.
Only four teams advance to the postseason.
After today’s DH, the Patriots are home on Thursday against Louisiana College (5:30 p.m. women, 7:30 p.m. men).
