HS Soccer Roundup, Jan. 17: Curtis sparks Lady Raiders to 5-0 win


LUFKIN — Mallory Curtis scored two goals as the Lee girls pummeled Alvin 5-0 Thursday in their first game of the Lady Pack Soccer Showcase.

Lee (3-2) also received goals from McKenzie Eakin, Brooke Johnston and Julia Harrison. Assists were by Johnston, Harrison and Adai Urieta (2).

Alyson Johnston had five saves to secure the clean sheet.

“I thought we played real well,” Lee coach Chris Woodard said. “We strung a lot of passes together and our back players and Alyson did a good job.”

REL will face Huntsville at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Abe Martin Stadium in Lufkin.

Lufkin beats Lady Lions

LUFKIN — Lufkin drilled the John Tyler girls 6-0 in the Lady Pack Soccer Showcase on Thursday.

Lufkin also defeated JT in junior varsity action, 2-0.

The Lady Lions (4-6) failed to get to the .500 mark against the host school.

“Lufkin’s a powerhouse,” JT girls coach William Aranguren said. “They were faster and more experienced.”

The Lady Lions continue action in the tournament today against Nacogdoches.

Red Oak hands Raiders first loss

LONGVIEW — Robert E. Lee senior Lumi Kaba continued to add to his goal-scoring tally, but it wasn’t enough in a 2-1 loss to Red Oak on Thursday at the Longview Tournament.

Kaba netted his sixth goal in four games in the second half to equalize after Lee (3-1) trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Red Oak grabbed the game winner in the closing minutes.

“We had a hard time getting into our possession game,” Lee coach Marty Germany said. “At halftime we talked about how we needed to play at a faster pace. We missed a couple of opportunities early (in the second half) or the result could’ve been different.”

Lee will face Kilgore at 5 p.m. today at Lobo Stadium.

Dollahite keys Grace boys in rout

DALLAS — Reid Dollahite’s hat trick sparked Grace Community to a 6-0 rout of Dallas Christian on Thursday.

Dollahite also added an assist for the Cougars, who led 5-0 at halftime.

Also scoring for Grace (6-5-2, 3-0 TAPPS D-II District 2) were Criss Barker, David Carrazco and Geoffrey Taylor, with Ty Hunter and David Fraga adding assists.

The Cougars return to action Tuesday with a home match against Bishop Gorman at 7:45 p.m. from Clyde-Perkins Stadium.

All Saints girls tie 1-1

CARROLLTON — All Saints tied Carrollton Prince of Peace 1-1 in a girls soccer match Thursday.

Allie Werner scored for All Saints off a pass from Ashton Bellamy. Prince of Peace evened the score later in the first half.

All Saints (6-1-3) returns to the field at home Tuesday against Dallas Parish Episcopal at 5 p.m.
