BULLARD β€” The Brook Hill girls and boys hoops groups picked up district wins over Richardson Canyon Creek in TAPPS 4-3A play on Tuesday night at the Herrington Sports Complex.

Samantha Anderson led the Lady Guard (10-6, 2-0), to a 49-23 win, scoring 16 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in limited playing time. The Brook Hill starters checked out at the 4:04 mark of the third quarter, returning sparingly as the bench played the youthful Lady Cougars (0-2).

The boys chalked up a league win in convincing fashion with a 79-49 win in the finale behind four players in double-digits, led by Chase McDermott’s 23 points.

The weather outside was cold and icy. The Lady Guard took advantage of some ice-cold shooting in the first half from Canyon Creek to remain undefeated in district play.

The Lady Guard jumped to a 14-0 first quarter lead as Brook Hill point guard Morgan Moss made 6 of her 11 points, sparking the defense with seven steals in the game.

Samantha Anderson had another double-double to lead the way, scoring 10 in the first half as the Lady Guard took a 31-2 cushion.

Canyon Creek finally got a bucket with 20 seconds remaining in the second quarter on Alex Livingston’s lone basket for the Lady Cougars.

Lady Guard forward Alyssa Eden knocked down a three-pointer and added 14 points and six rebounds.

Chase McDermott kept it coming the whole game for Brook Hill, topping all scorers in the game and adding nine rebounds.

The Guard evened up the district ledger at 1-1, jumping to a 21-8 lead after one quarter as McDermott hit a trey and scored 7 first-quarter points. An additional 10 points in the final period from McDermott sealed the win as he scored 8 of 10 on a 12-0 run that gave his side a 72-42 lead.

Brook Hill point guard Grant Hanks directed the offense with six assists, five steals and five rebounds to go with five 3-pointers and 15-points.

Bryant Robinson came off the bench to join teammate Alex Hale with 12 points apiece. Hale ended the first quarter and started the second quarter with dunks to put an emphasis on the early start and 36-23 halftime lead.

For Canyon Creek, Jalen Johnson hit three 3-pointers and John Oliver played well inside as both led the Cougars with 16 points each.
