Frankston boys, girls open Frankston Classic with wins


FRANKSTON β€” The Frankston Indians and Maidens took first-round wins Thursday at the Frankston Classic at G.V. β€œBo” Ousley Gymnasium.

The Maidens got a game-high 15 points from Mallory Winkler, leading to a commanding 52-23 win over the Lady Guard of Bullard Brook Hill in the girls finale for the day.

With Brook Hill playing without three starters on vacation, Alyssa Eden led the Lady Guard with 11 of the teams’ 23 points in the game.

In other girls’ games to start the classic, Troup outlasted Malakoff 38-32.

Josse Ross led Troup with 16 points, backed by 12 points from Paeten Nolan in the win.

Tiessha Jackson led Malakoff with 11 points in the setback.

Brownsboro’s Brian Ralson made two free throws down the stretch to give the Bears a 45-42 win over Malakoff in the opening boys game of the classic.

Ralson led all scorers with 15 points, while teammate Taylor Beall nailed two 3-pointers and finished with 10 points to aid the win.

The finale was another Frank-ston blowout, besting Alba-Golden 41-25.

Full-court pressure was a big problem for the Panthers (5-12), who were outscored 16-2 in the third quarter.

Corey Warren paced the Indians with 16 points.
