Four area players have been named to the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 3A first-team all-state football team, released Tuesday.
Palestine, which finished the season 7-4, is represented by two players on the squad — junior offensive lineman Brian Thlang and senior defensive back Ivory Brown. Thlang graded out at 95 percent while helping the Wildcats rushed for 2,700 yards, while Brown registered 68 tackles, six interceptions (two returned for TDs) and six pass breakups.
Henderson senior defensive lineman Bo Brady and Athens junior linebacker K.J. Cumby also made the first team.
Brady, who also made all-state as a junior, recorded 60 tackles (44 solo), 12.4 sacks, 24.5 tackles for losses, five forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Brown, meanwhile, posted 68 tackles, six interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) and six pass breakups.
Gilmer junior linebacker Josh Walker was selected to the second team. The Buckeyes (14-1) meet Navasota (14-1) in the 3A Division II state championship game at 4 p.m. Friday at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
Carthage senior defensive lineman Isaiah Golden was also named to the second team.
