HALLSVILLE — Michael Harris scored the go-ahead basket with 27 seconds left in double overtime to lead Chapel Hill past Hallsville, 73-71, on Tuesday night.

Hallsville forced double OT with a 3-pointer as time expired in the first overtime.

Julius Hill scored 34 points to lead Chapel Hill (3-3).

Harris added 20 points.

Great East Texas Shoot Out begins Thursday

BROWNSBORO — The Great East Texas Shoot Out, one of the state’s biggest basketball tournaments, begins Thursday at various Brownsboro ISD gyms.

This year’s event features 29 girls teams and 17 boys teams, and concludes Saturday with the title rounds at BHS (6:15 p.m. boys and 4:45 p.m. girls).

Martins Mill is the defending girls champion and kicks things off at 8 a.m. Thursday against All Saints. The first two rounds are set for Thursday.

Defending boys champ Lucas Lovejoy isn’t in the tournament field.
