Led by Matthew Roe’s return to the mat, Bishop Gorman wrestling swept through five duals Saturday at Haddad Gym.

In a competition featuring six teams from two states, the Crusaders came out on top. Gorman beat Calvary Baptist (La.) 78-6, Evangel Christian Academy (La.) 48-30, Lakeside (La.) 47-33, Bishop Dunne 78-6 and Henderson 72-12.

Roe, a senior competing at the 285 pounds, pinned all five of his opponents. Roe was a state silver medalist as a sophomore but missed his junior season with a knee injury.

“It was wonderful to have Matthew Roe back for us again this year,” Gorman coach Matt Oxler said. “We’re looking for great things from him this year, his senior year. He’s even bigger and stronger than he was two years ago.”

Anthony Milton also recorded five pins for the Crusaders, who received solid contributions across the board. James Harris, a junior who finished fourth in state last year, won all his matches.
