Overton Out: Tenaha beats Mustangs, 42-8

BECKVILLE — Chavis Gregory rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Tenaha Tigers to a 42-8 Class 1A Division II area playoff win over Overton on Friday afternoon.
Gregory capped the opening drive of the contest with a 2-yard plunge and added a 19-yard run later in the quarter to stake the Tigers to a 14-0 lead.
Everything went right for the Tigers from the very beginning as JR Hill stepped in front of an Overton pass on the Mustangs’ next possession and galloped 33 yards for a TD and a 21-0 lead.
Gregory did more damage from the offensive side, this time lobbing a pretty pass just over the defender to Jacobi Ivy for a 28-yard touchdown with 8:54 remaining in the second and the Tigers had a 28-0 lead.
Overton mounted a drive late in the first half, which could have changed momentum going into halftime. On second-and-goal from the Tenaha 1, Overton quarterback KJ Luster was hit from behind by the Tiger defensive line, causing a fumble, which Hill again scooped up and raced 81 yards to stretch the halftime lead to 35-0.
Jesse Roach, the main Mustang offensive weapon, finally found the end zone with 8:56 remaining in the third quarter on a 9-yard run. Roach finished with 97 yards rushing and 10 yards receiving, giving him 107 of the team’s 127 yards.
Tenaha (7-4) advances to face the Hubbard-Bremond winner.
