JOSHUA — The Cayuga Wildcats downed San Saba, 28-21, in a bi-district playoff game that came down to the final second on Friday.

Trailing by a touchdown, San Saba quarterback Kelan Verette was stopped at the goal line by junior Wesley Rigdon on the last play of the game.

After Cayuga — the District 6-1A Division I runner-up — went ahead by seven points, San Saba started a final drive on its 25-yard line. Facing a fourth down from the 5 with time about to expire, San Saba went to a spread formation with Verette alone in the backfield. The junior quarterback faked a pass and then ran toward the end zone where he was met by Rigdon.

The Wildcats will take on Lindsay at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Burleson.

Played at Royse City ISD Stadium, Wylie led just 20-14 at the half, but pulled away in the second half.

Donning their traditional all-black “AHMO” playoff uniforms, Wylie held down a Mount Pleasant offense that came in averaging 48.8 points per game. Wylie (5-6) recovered two fumbles, had two interceptions and safely latched onto two onside kick attempts by Mount Pleasant (8-3).

Mount Pleasant quarterback Monty James rushed for 57 yards and two TDs and passed for 137 in the loss.

Wylie, which began the season 0-5, now advances to the area round against John Tyler.

Atlanta routs Wills Point, 72-32

LONGVIEW — The Atlanta Rabbits blew past the Wills Point Tigers, 72-32, in a Class 3A bi-district matchup at Lobo Stadium on Friday.

Atlanta, which tied with two other teams for second place in District 13-3A, was led by the rushing of Corion Webster and Everett Dickerson and the passing of Chase Musgrove as the Rabbits put together 632 yards of offense in the lopsided win.

Webster rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, and Dickerson finished the game with 110 yards and two TDs on six carries.

Musgrove completed 7 of 10 passes for 160 yards and also scored a pair of rushing touchdowns.

Atlanta jumped to a quick 13-0 first-quarter lead and extended it to 39-17 at the half.

Wills Point, which finished District 14-3A tied for first at 3-1, earned an impressed 369 yards of offense, but it wasn’t enough.

The Tigers were led by Dominique Granville who scored three TDs, one on an 18-yard pass from Chase Pemberton and the other two on rushes of 1 and 4 yards.

Pemberton, who finished the game 15 of 33 for 201 yards and two TDs, also connected with Tre Smith on an 11-yard scoring pass.

Hallsville no match for Lucas Lovejoy

FORNEY — The Hallsville Bobcats lost to an offensive juggernaut in Lucas Lovejoy, 40-13, Friday night at Forney ISD’s City Bank Stadium.

The Leopards proved why they were the undefeated District 13-4A champions, with senior Cullon Oldham-Greene running 12 times for 76 yards and a touchdown and freshman quarterback Bowman Sells completing 17 of 23 passes for 300 yards and a score as Lovejoy advanced to the area round.

Lovejoy (11-0) will play Lancaster, which won on the same turf on Thursday night, at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Eagle-Mustang Stadium in Richardson after piling up 479 yards of total offense while holding Hallsville (7-4) to 300.

Dan Sefcik finished with 182 yards of total offense, including six receptions for 156 yards and a score, as Lovejoy continued its stellar run in its first year in Class 4A.

Zach Saffle’s 49-yard punt return to Hallsville’s 3-yard line in the third quarter set up Oldham-Greene’s touchdown run. Hallsville’s Coby Bradford recorded his 14th sack of the season, but Sefcik took a screen pass from Sells and bulldozed over a defender for a 45-yard touchdown.

Brook Hill falls to Midland Christian, 44-3

MIDLAND — It didn’t take long to see Friday night that Midland Christian found some weaknesses in Bullard Brook Hill’s defense, and the Mustangs did their part to make sure those weaknesses were exploited.

Mustang quarterback Mason McClendon and his receiving corp gashed the Guard’s defense for 280 yards passing, the majority of it in the first half, as the Mustangs rolled to a 44-3 victory in a TAPPS Division II bi-district game at Mustang Field.

Midland Christian (10-1) scored on its first five possessions and rolled up 428 yards on the night, but it was the Mustangs’ first two scores that set the tone for the game and allowed Midland Christian to cruise from there.

McClendon, who completed 10 of 19 passes for 280 yards, hit Jarrod Koym for a 63-yard strike on the third play of the game, and then a few minutes later McClendon connected with Elias Aguirre for a 53-yard score midway through the first quarter.

From that point on, the Mustangs had control of the game, and never allowed Brook Hill (6-5), the 2011 TAPPS Division III state champ, to get any kind of momentum.

Koym finished the game with four catches for 152 yards, while Aguirre had three catches for 87 yards.
