Quick Slant: Lancaster is a tough opening-round draw for the Indians, considering the Tigers were the only team to beat second-ranked John Tyler (26-21 in non-district) and spent most of the season in the Associated Press’s top 10 (finished at No. 11). Lancaster put its offensive potential on display against Summit, finishing the game with 581 total yards, led by junior quarterback DeMarcus Ayers’s four touchdowns performance. Jacksonville, meanwhile, got into the playoffs despite losing three of its final four games. Indians quarterback Carter McCown completed 16 of 27 passes for 207 yards and two scores against Corsicana, despite being ruled a game-time decision because of injury.

Elysian Fields vs. Winona

Quick Slant: Winona is in the playoffs for the first time since 1994. This marks the ninth postseason appearance in program history for the Wildcats, who totaled only four wins from 2009-11. Winona tied Frankston in the district standings, but controlled the tiebreaker thanks to a 50-31 victory over the Indians in the meeting between the teams. Winona has won two of its last three games. Elysian Fields, meanwhile, completed the season with back-to-back wins against New Diana (27-2) and Paul Pewitt.

Overton vs. Wortham
What: Class 1A Division II bi-district

Where: Wildcat Stadium, Palestine
Records: Overton 6-4; Wortham 4-6

Quick Slant: Overton is in the playoffs for the first time since 2005 and the 16th time in program history. Prior to missing the postseason every year from 1996 to 2004, the Mustangs were a perennial contender with playoff appearances in seven of eight seasons. Overton produced almost 600 total yards in the victory against Union Hill to earn a share of the District 10-1A Division II title alongside Detroit and Maud. Despite the 6-4 record, the Mustangs have been outscored on average 29-22 a game.

Gilmer vs. Canton
What: Class 3A Division II bi-district playoff

Where: Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium

Quick Slant: The last time these teams met in the playoffs was in 2005. In that game, Canton eliminated Gilmer 61-58 in the area round at Rose Stadium. That Canton team was led by quarterback G.J. Kinne, who transferred to Gilmer for his senior season. Both teams played for district championships last week, but only Gilmer was successful. Gilmer quarterback Tanner Barr has completed 153 of 264 passes for 1,852 yards and 15 touchdowns, plus has carried the ball 84 times for a team-high 491 yards and two TDs. Canton quarterback Chandler Eiland has completed 126 of 215 passes for 1,787 yards and 23 TDs. Eagles running back Reece Sumner has 873 yards and nine scores on the ground.
