LINDALE — The Lindale Eagles looked like they were going to end the season with nine consecutive losses.

Instead, they scored 22 points in the final 5:31 to take a 31-21 victory over the Nacogdoches Dragon on Friday night at Eagle Stadium.

Lindale scored 9 points in the first 42 minutes of the game but scored 15 points in a seven-second span to take a 24-21 lead.

After the Dragons used a 14-yard pass from Patrick Ledet to L.J. Barnes to stretch the lead to 24-21 with 8:42 to play, Lindale marched down the field and scored on a 10-yard pass from Cody Slice to Tyler Daniels to cut the score to 21-16 with 5:31 left in the game.

The Eagles then recovered an onside kick and after confusing the Dragons with their formation followed by an audible, Slice found a wide-open Cody Johnson for a 24-yard touchdown. Dakota Meurer ran in the 2-point conversion to put Lindale ahead 24-21 with 5:24 on the clock.

On the following drive, Lindale’s Stephen Clemmons picked off Hunter McClellan and returned the ball into Dragon territory.

Nacogdoches forced a fourth-and-goal from the 3, but Lindale’s Trey Acy ran it in to put the game away.

Acy rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries.

Acy’s first touchdown of the game gave Lindale a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

The score remained the same until a 1-yard run by Patrick Ledet with 0:01 left in the first half gave the Dragons a 7-6 halftime lead.

Ledet was 14 of 18 through the air for 127 yards in his final game as a Dragon. He also had a 61-yard punt.

Nacogdoches opened the second half with a strong drive, powered by sophomore Coronado Tolbert. He ran eight times on the drive for 54 yards and finished it off with an 8-yard touchdown to make it 14-6.

Lindale got a 24-yard field goal by Luc Swimberghe late in the third quarter to make it 14-9 Nacogdoches heading into the final quarter.

Tolbert rushed for 90 yards on 15 carries for the Dragons (0-10, 0-5), who had 302 yards in the contest. Senior Wes Smith caught six passes for 72 yards.

Slice was 14 of 23 through the air for 164 yards and two touchdowns for Lindale (2-8, 1-4). Meurer caught five passes for 78 yards and Dee Jackson had three receptions for 60 yards.
