Volleyball Roundup: Quitman improves to 3-0 in district play

QUITMAN 3, ALBA-GOLDEN 0

Quitman swept Alba-Golden in three sets (25-18, 26-24, 25-11). Leaders of the pack for the Lady Bulldogs were Kaci Raley (16 digs, 15 kills, 4 blocks), Molly Tanner (15 digs, 13 kills, 1 ace), Cammie Hicks (4 digs, 45 assists), Madalyn Spears (14 digs, 11 kills) and Jentri Jackson (13 digs, 9 kills).

Quitman JV also won their match (26-24, 25-17). Quitman’s record is now 21-7 (3-0). The Lady Bulldogs will defend their home turf against Eustace on Tuesday.

WHITEHOUSE 3, PLEASANT GROVE 0

Whitehouse swept Pleasant Grove on Friday (25-20, 25-16, 25-20). The leading Lady Wildcats were Sydney Malmstrom (10 kills, 4 blocks), Kaitlyn Wood (8 kills), Grace Hendricks (16 assists), Lauren Hannah (11 assists) and Macy Smith (22 digs). Whitehouse’s record is now 21-8.

Whitehouse JV (25-18, 15-25, 25-20) and Freshman (25-18, 25-15) also won their matches. The Lady Wildcats will be traveling to Henderson on Tuesday, and will begin district play against Nacogdoches next Friday.

BROOK HILL 3, HEAT 0

Brook Hill defeated the H.E.A.T. on Friday in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-18). The leading players were Emily Livesay (4 digs, 8 assists, 7 aces), Maddie Anthony (5 kills, 15 digs, 11 assists, 3 aces), Bailea Mapes (4 kills, 7 digs, 2 blocks), Katherine Mondrick (4 kills, 4 blocks, 6 digs, 4 assists), Madeline Reed (7 kills) and Morgan Carpenter (4 kills, 4 digs, 5 blocks, 2 aces). Brook Hill JV also won their match (25-19, 25-12).

RAINS 3, BULLARD 1

With its 11th win in a row, Rains defeated Bullard in four on Friday night (25-20, 25-20, 17-25, 25-16). The leading Lady Cats were Shelbi Sheppard (10 kills, 26 assists, 11 digs), McKenna Hildebrandt (9 kills, 9 blocks), Summer Nerkowski (14 digs) and Aubrey Gowin (4 blocks). Friday’s win sets Rains’ record at 19-10.

Rains will begin district play next Friday as it travels to Brownsboro.

OVERTON 3, HAWKINS 1

The Hawkins Lady Hawks fell to Overton in non-district action Friday night, 22-25, 25-22, 21-25 and 22-25.

Jaycee Cheshire had 10 kills in the loss, followed by Logan Jaco with seven. Christian Harris added six kills. Lilly Long and Raeli Smith combined for 18 assists. Long also had two aces.

Defensively, Raeli Smith picked up 15 digs, Alyssa Eddington had 11 and Harlie Conover had seven.

The Lady Hawks open up district play in Big Sandy on Tuesday night. The first game will begin at 4:30 p.m.
