Tuesday Volleyball Roundup: Tyler Lee grabs first district win at Mesquite Horn

MESQUITE - Tyler Lee grabbed its first district victory Tuesday by going on the road and taking down Mesquite Horn in four games.

The Lady Raiders (1-1 in 11-6A) won 22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-17 to raise their overall record to 16-9.

Senior Ashley Oldham led Robert E. Lee offensively with 22 kills to go with nine digs and an ace. Other leaders for the Lady Raiders were: April Brown (17 kills, 1 block), Aliyah Shirley (25 assists), Anna Stone (22 assists) and Blythe Heisey (10 digs, 4 aces).

Lee will be on the road again Friday against John Tyler. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Lions Den.

 

District 11-6A

Mesquite 3, John Tyler 0

The John Tyler Lady Lions dropped to 0-2 in district with a 3-0 loss Tuesday to Mesquite.

JT lost 25-21, 25-18, 25-22.

The Lady Lions freshmen team won its match, 25-13, 25-18 with the JV falling in three games, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20.

 

Non-District

All Saints 3, Whitehouse 0

All Saints, after dropping the first set, rallied to defeat Whitehouse 3-1 on Tuesday (18-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-22) in a non-district match.

Leaders in victory for the Lady Trojans were Hannah Waits (11 kills, 3 blocks, 3 aces), Lilly Lewis (23 assists, 2 aces), Trysten Mosley (8 kills, 2 blocks), Olivia Young (13 kills), Maddie Varga (16 digs) and Jaylen Wheat (3 aces).

Whitehouse (20-8) was led in the loss by Briana Brown (9 kills), Kaitlyn Wood (8 kills), Sydney Malmstrom (5 kills, 7 blocks), Grace Hendricks (18 assists) and Macy Smith (36 digs).

In the subvarsity matches, Whitehouse JV defeated All Saints, 22-25, 25-9, 15-9; and Whitehouse Freshmen won 25-16, 25-9.

All Saints will travel to Bishop Gorman on Thursday, Sept. 21 for a 6:30 p.m. game. Whitehouse will be at home Friday against Pleasant Grove.

 

District 15-3A

Troup 3, Sabine 2

LIBERTY CITY - The Troup Lady Tigers got past Sabine in five games Tuesday to win their district opener.

Troup won, 25-18, 18-25, 25-9, 20-25 and 15-9 to move to 10-8 on the season and 1-0 in 15-3A.

Asia Parker paced the Lady Tigers with 17 kills. Other Troup leaders were: Kori Minnix (5 kills, 14 digs), Natalie Davenport (26 assists, 10 digs, 6 kills) and Savanna Cox (8 kills, 12 digs).

 

Non-District

Bullard 3, Rusk 1

BULLARD - Bullard defended its home court against Rusk on Tuesday in a non-district match and was victorious in four sets (22-25, 25-17, 25-14, 25-17).

Bullard’s leading Lady Panthers were: Sara McKeethan (17 kills, 10 digs, 2 blocks, 2 aces), Destinee Dixon (11 digs, 22 assists), Kailan Bellew (12 digs), Ashlyn Meador (7 kills, 4 blocks), Kailey Consford (5 kills, 2 blocks), Keili Richmond (5 kills, 11 digs, 7 aces), Kylie McKeethan (13 assists) and Sarah Lewinski (4 kills, 2 blocks).

Bullard’s JV (25-16, 25-22) and ninth grade (25-17, 25-10) also won their matches.

Bullard’s overall record is now 17-8. The Lady Panthers will travel to Rains on Friday.

 

Non-District

Lindale 3, Henderson 0

HENDERSON - Lindale’s Lorin Reue and Brina Kuslak led the Lady Eagles to a comfortable 3-0 win over Henderson Tuesday in a non-district road test.

Reue posted seven kills with Kuslak delivering six kills and five blocks as Lindale won 25-19, 25-18, 25-12. Setters Harleigh Thurman and Kalaya Pierce finished with eight assists apiece while Pierce also had four aces. Alisha Kiser led defensively with 13 digs.

Lindale faces one more non-district road test in preparation for 16-5A play. The Lady Eagles will battle Bishop Gorman at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Crusader Gym. The Lady Eagles open league play Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Corsicana.

 

Non-District

Brook Hill 3, Oakwood 0

The Bullard Brook Hill Lady Guard took down Oakwood in three sets (25-11, 25-13, 25-20) in Tuesday in non-district match.

Brook Hill’s leading players for the evening were: Maddie Anthony (5 kills, 19 assists, 10 digs, 3 aces), Katherine Mondrick (6 kills, 4 blocks), Morgan Carpenter (9 kills, 2 blocks), Emily Livesay (11 assists, 4 aces), Bailea Mapes (5 aces), Mary Roberts (5 aces), Madeline Reed (9 kills) and Lexi Turner (3 blocks).

Brook Hill will be at home Thursday against Tyler HEAT.

 

District 12-3A

Quitman 3, Edgewood 2

QUITMAN - The Quitman Lady Bulldogs outlasted Edgewood Tuesday in five games to remain undefeated in District 12-3A.

Quitman won, 25-16, 24-26, 23-25, 25-13, and 15-9 to move to 20-7 overall and 2-0 in district.

Leading the way for Quitman were Kaci Raley (18 digs, 16 kills, 6 blocks), Molly Tanner (11 kills, 10 digs, 4 aces, 3 assists), Cammie Hicks (32 assists, 10 digs), Jentri Jackson (13 digs, 8 kills) and Madalyn Spears (22 digs, 4 kills).

In the JV match, Quitman won 25-9, 25-5. In the freshmen match, Quitman won, 25-13, 21-25, 25-15.

Quitman will next be at Alba-Golden at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

 

Non-District

Grace Community 3, Kilgore 0

Grace took care of Kilgore with a sweep on Tuesday (25-19, 25-19, 25-13).

Leading the Lady Cougars to victory was Anne Hendricks (16 assists, 5 aces), Alexis Saczek (10 kills), Rylan Wright (10 kills), Rebekah Sutton (14 assists, 2 aces) and Isabella Ramirez (4 kills, 9 digs).

Grace will play at home next Tuesday against Jacksonville.

 

District 20-2A

Gary 3, Carlisle 0

Gary beat Carlisle on Tuesday evening in three sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-15). The leading Lady Bobcats were Heather Craig (14 kills, 8 digs), Aubrey Hart (9 kills, 6 blocks) and Jailin Kee (24 assists, 5 digs). Carlisle’s record is now 16-12 (1-1).

They Maidens will play at Timpson on Friday.
