Volleyball roundup: Gorman, Troup, Alba-Golden, Whitehouse post wins

Bishop Gorman scored a 3-0 win over Longview Christian in a volleyball match on Friday.

Gorman won 25-23, 25-12, 25-12.

Coach Tracey Giorgio said junior Emilee Perry came in late in the third game and got the block to seal the win. Giorgio added freshman Olivia Roberts played her first varsity match and “had an amazing defensive game.”

Troup 3, Harmony 0

Troup’s Lady Tigers secured another victory on Friday night, defeating Harmony in three sets (25-12, 25-20, 25-15).

The Lady Tigers leading the streak were: Alex Flora (7 kills, 9 digs, 1 assist), Asia Parker (2 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks, 1 ace), Cheyenne Henson (2 kills, 1 dig, 1 block), Jansen Reid (17 digs, 1 assist, 1 ace), Kori Minnix (6 kills, 16 digs, 1 block, 2 ace), Natalie Davenport (3 kills, 10 digs, 26 assists, 2 aces) and Savanna Cox (11 kills, 10 digs, 2 blocks).

Alba-Golden 3, Edgewood 2

Alba-Golden fought hard and pulled out the win over Edgewood on Friday (15-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 14-16).

Ginny Carson led the charge with 18 kills, three blocks and 9 digs. Next was Kenzie Chadwick with 17 kills and two digs, followed by Aspen Howard (33 assists, 15 digs) and Bralee Littlejohn (2 assists, 2 aces, 10 digs).

Whitehouse 3, Carthage 0

The Whitehouse Lady Wildcats claimed victory over Carthage in three Friday night (25-17, 25-18, 25-16). The leading ladies in victory were Mahayla Mitchell (13 digs, 4 aces), Sydney Malmstrom (10 kills, 5 block), Kaitlyn Wood (7 kills), Lauren Hannah (12 assists), Grace Hendricks (11 assists, 3 aces) and Macy Smith (16 digs).

Whitehouse is 20-7 on the season.

Longview 3, John Tyler 0

John Tyler had a rough Friday night, losing both their varsity (25-16, 25-17, 25-11) and JV (20-25, 25-20, 25-14) matches to Longview.

The three top players of the night for John Tyler were Lacorria Rollins (9 kills, 7 digs, 1 assist, 1 block), Talia Smith (6 kills, 2 digs, 4 blocks, 1 ace) and Michiah McFarland (4 digs).
