Top Hitter: Lee's Kuechle receives 12-5A accolades

Robert E. Lee senior Mallory Kuechle pulverized nearly every set that went her way and was the first person every Lady Raider opponent game-planned to stop.

The league coaches voted Kuechle Outstanding hitter for the All-District 12-5A Volleyball team.

The league coaches voted her Outstanding Hitter for the All-District 12-5A volleyball team. Kuechle earned first-team honors last year as a junior.

A Texas Women’s University signee, Kuechle led the Lady Raiders with 485 kills and 375 digs. She is joined on the first team by seniors Melissa Menard and Alexis Crowder. Menard finished with 535 assists while Crowder totaled 219 kills.

Lee was in position to win district until the final weeks of the season and could’ve still finished as league runner-up, but lost a district playoff to Rockwall. The Lady Raiders finished the season with a 30-13 record.

The district champion Rockwall-Heath Hawks dominated the all-district team with three superlatives, including MVP Regina Tillis and Coach of the Year Maggie Younger.

Earning second-team all district from Lee were junior middle Rebekah Bowden (117 stuff blocks) and sophomore libero Taylor Winchester (469 digs). Receiving honorable mention from Lee were seniors Chelsea Geter, Jaina Giddens, Gentry Townsend and Kenshai Moseley.

REL also several players receive Academic All-District accolades with Bowden, Crowder, Mallori Dike, Geter, Giddens, Kuechle, Menard, Moseley, Allison Snodgrass, Townsend, Winchester, Courtney Watson and Eryn Wilson all recognized for academic excellence.

Raider Rap: The Lady Raiders recently announced team awards with Kuechle named MVP, Bowden voted outstanding hitter, Menard was outstanding setter, Winchester top defensive player and Eryn Wilson received the Coaches Award.
