Union Grove won the Class 2A girls team title in track and field last month with seniors Hanna Chambliss, Cheyenne Grubbs, Kyra Winn and junior Summer Grubbs putting on a memorable performance in Austin.
All four have now been selected for the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) All-State track team. The athletes must be nominated by member coaches who are in good standing with the TGCA and the team’s head coach must be in good standing for his athletes to be eligible for nomination.
Three of the all-state members -- Winn, Chambliss and Summer Grubbs -- were part of the Lady Bulldogs’ gold-medal winning 4x200-meter relay team at the state meet. Summer Grubbs joined the other three to finish as silver medalist in the 4x400-meter relay. Cheyenne Grubbs grabbed gold in the 300-meter hurdles with Summer Grubbs taking gold in the girls 2A long jump.
Joining Union Grove on the Class 2A all-state team are Carlisle’s Hayley Jordan and Cayuga’s Stormi Lane. Jordan, a senior, was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at state and also qualified for state in the high jump. Lane, a sophomore, was fourth in the 100-meter dash at state.
In Class 3A, Elkhart’s Ashley Buck was chosen for the all-state team. Buck, a senior, competed at the state meet and finished fourth in the triple jump.
