Volleyball: UT Tyler wins, TJC falls

Kaitlyn Budisalovich had 11 kills to help lead UT Tyler to a 3-0 sweep of LeTourneau on Wednesday in an American Southwest Conference volleyball match at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots won 25-21, 25-11, 25-12 The Patriots (16-4, 9-2 ASC) also swept the season series against the YellowJackets (6-15, 1-8 ASC) after taking the first meeting in straight sets in Longview in mid-September.

Budisalovich recorded double-digit kills for the third time this season and now has 85 kills on the season, while Brieanne Brown and Brianna Bellehumeur added nine kills each for the UT Tyler offensive attack.

UT Tyler will return to action this weekend with three matches in Abilene at the second ASC Crossover of the season which matches up East and West divisions at a central location. The Patriots will open the weekend with a 3 p.m. Friday match against Sul Ross on the Hardin-Simmons University campus and then will drive across town to play McMurry at 8 p.m. in the War Hawks’ Kimbrell Arena.

The weekend will wrap up against Mary Hardin-Baylor back at HSU with a 3 p.m. Saturday match before the Patriots return home to host UT Dallas Tuesday in their final home match of the regular season.

Trinity Valley 3, TJC 1

ATHENS - The No. 14 Trinity Valley Lady Cardinals scored a 3-1 win over the No. 20 Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies in a Region XIV volleyball match on Wednesday at Cardinal Gym.

TVCC won 11-25, 29-27, 25-22, 27-25.

The Lady Cardinals move to 21-3 overall and 2-3 in league play, while TJC falls to 10-89 (2-2).

The Apache Ladies travel to West Plains, Missouri for a weekend tournament. On Friday, TJC plays Missouri-West Plains at 11 a.m. and Indian Hills (Iowa) at 7 p.m.

Trinity Valley plays host to Cedar Valley at 2 p.m. Saturday.
