Tyler Junior College will hold its annual Black and Gold Spring Game on Friday at Pat Hartley Field on the TJC campus. The Apaches are coming off a 5-4 season a year ago and will open the 2017 campaign Aug. 26 at Kilgore College.
The Kilgore boys soccer team’s state championship will be celebrated with a parade on Monday.
The route will begin at 5:15 p.m. and end at the Kilgore Post Office and is scheduled to go down Main Street, Martin Street and Lantrip.
After the parade, a pep rally will be held at Kilgore High School, which will feature a presentation of the team, video highlights and video comments from players and coaches.
In the Class 4A Region II tennis championships, Kilgore’s Tyrese Sheffield and Ian St. Clair finished as regional champions in boys doubles with a straight set win over Kavin Patel and Blake Zeillinger of Spring Hill in the final. Both teams qualified for the Class 4A state tournament next month in College Station.
Joining them in girls doubles from Wills Point are Maddie Booth and Claire Hiler, who overcame being stopped in the final to win a playback against Whitlee Reed and Megan Dunn of Center for the final state spot. In mixed doubles, Wills Point’s Chase Daniel and Kelsey James finished as regional champs and will now move on to state.
Rains’ Pedro Uson finished third in boys singles by defeating Matt Cochran from Paris.
Troup recently competed in the 3A Region II tennis tournament at TJC. Competing for the Tigers were Josh Williams and Logan Stone in boys doubles, Chris Phillips and Grace Walker in mixed doubles and Emily Krall and Drake Colvin in mixed doubles. Of the three entrants, only Krall and Colvin advanced past the first round before being stopped in the quarterfinals.
Longview football’s Green and White Game will take place Tuesday, May 16, at Lobo Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. with Lobo fans getting their first opportunity to see the 2017 Longview team.
Bullard Brook Hill softball’s Senior Night game against Bishop Gorman on Thursday was canceled due to the Lady Crusaders forfeiting because of lack of enough players. The festivities have been tentatively rescheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Lindale softball moved into first place in District 17-5A with a 2-1 victory over Corsicana on Senior Night. The Lady Eagles used a 10-hit attack to take down Corsicana with London Reue, Lorin Reue and Mallory Welvaert all getting in on the act. Lorin Reue got the win in the circle, allowing one run on five hits with eight strikeouts.
The Lady Eagles (20-6, 8-2) honored seniors Allie Thompson, Welvaert and Michaela Walker before the first pitch. Lindale has a chance to capture the district title with a win Friday at Nacogdoches (0-9).
Troup softball closed out its regular season Tuesday with a 15-0 win over Winona on Senior Night. The Lady Tigers went 7-3 in District 15-3A to enter the playoffs as the district’s second seed. Harmony finished as district champs with an unblemished 10-0 record.
Troup honored seniors Lizzy Chambers and Drea Austin before the first pitch. The Lady Tigers (10-10) will open the 3A playoffs against New Diana (23-7) at 6 p.m. Thursday in Hallsville.
