John Tyler improved to 3-0 in District 31-4A soccer with a 1-0 win over Athens on Monday at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
Lorenzo Duran scored the only goal of the game, five minutes into the second half.
JT coach Howard Story, whose club improves to 10-3 overall, complimented the play of Duran, who plays left back. He also added that goalkeeper Daniel Montoya and defender Juan Cornejo played well.
Story also noted his team hit the post twice on shots.
The Lions won the junior varsity match, 5-0.
Scoring goals for the Lions’ JV were Luis Duran, Saul Guillen, Freddie Hernandez, Javier Alfaro and Francisco Villela.
The Lions return to play on Friday at Whitehouse. The JV starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity at 7 p.m.
