The Robert E. Lee soccer teams will be in action Tuesday against Mesquite.
The games represent opportunities for both the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders. The Lee boys (8-3-1, 3-0-0, 9 pts) are aiming to remain unbeaten in District 12-5A and alone in first place in the league standings. The Lee girls (7-8, 0-3-0, 0 pts) are seeking to break though for their first points in district.
The Lady Raiders game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium with the Red Raiders at 7 p.m. at E.H. Hanby Stadium in Mesquite.
Lee snapped a three-game goalless drought last Friday in its 4-1 loss to Mesquite Horn, but the Lady Raiders have been outscored 6-1 in their three league contests. Coach Chris Woodard is hoping having all of his starters back healthy for the first time in weeks will lead to REL breaking through on the scoresheet and in the win column.
Mesquite is 1-1-1 (4 pts) in its three district games and coming off a scoreless draw against Rockwall in which Mesquite lost the ensuing penalty kick shootout, to give the Skeeters one point instead of two for their efforts.
The Red Raiders keep posting victories and clean sheets in district play. Henry Plancarte has three in a row with he and fellow goalkeeper Allan Gilliam combining for five straight overall. Lee edged past Mesquite Horn 1-0 on Friday on a goal from Isaias Robles.
Mesquite is winless in three district outings and lost 6-0 against Rockwall on Friday. The Skeeters have been outscored 13-2 thus far. That could bode well for REL senior forward Lumi Kaba, who enters with four goals in district play and 16 overall.
