Tyler’s Haley Mills tied for third in Stage I of the LPGA/Symetra Tour Qualifying School, which concluded Sunday in Rancho Mirage, California.

Mills, daughter of Steve and Claire Mills, of Tyler, advances to Stage II, which is scheduled for Oct. 16-22 at Plantation Golf & Country Club (Bobcat and Panther courses) in Venice, Florida.

She will join fellow Tylerite Katelyn Sepmoree at the second stage. Sepmoree, who is ranked No. 40 on the Symetra Tour - billed as the Road to the LPGA and is akin to the Web.com Tour on the men’s side - automatically qualified for Stage II.

Mills, a former University of Texas golfer, scored a 10-under 278 to tie for third with Martina Edberg of Sweden. The tourney was held at Mission Hills Country Club. Each player competed on the Dinah Shore Course, Arnold Palmer Course and Gary Player Signature Course during the first three rounds. The final round was on the Dinah Shore Course. The Gary Player Course is at Westin Mission Hills Resort.

Mills had rounds of 68, 73, 66 and 71.

Linna Strom of Sweden won the stage with a 17-under 271, followed by Soo Jin Lee of Australia at 11-under 277.

The top 79 and ties advance to the second stage. There were 361 entries.

Sepmoree played at Robert E. Lee High School and was also a University of Texas golfer.

At Stage II, the top 80 and ties advance to Qualifying School Stage III, which is scheduled for Nov. 29-Dec. 3 at LPGA International (Hills, Jones courses) in Daytona Beach, Florida.

All other players who complete 72 holes in Stage II will receive Symetra Tour status (based on finish) for the 2018 season.
