State Golf: Arp's Greer tied for fourth

Gracie Greer of Arp and Victoria Gleghorn of Nacogdoches Central Heights are tied for fourth after Monday’s first round of the UIL Class 3A State Golf Tournament in Austin.

Greer, competing in her fourth straight state tournament, and Gleghorn carded 7-over 79s on the 5,215-yard Grey Rock Golf Course.

Rockdale’s Lyndy Laurrell leads the medalist race with a 2-over 74. She is followed by Alpine’s Morgan Molsbee (76) and Comfort’s Loren Nevers (78).

Other East Texans medalists include: Aerial Reeves, Jefferson, 94; Noel Rubel, Buffalo, 95; and Heather McGill, Harleton, 98.

Sonora leads the team race with a 346, followed by Callisburg (367) and Rockdale (372). Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill is 12th with a 423.

Union Grove’s Caitlyn Fisher is sixth after carding an 84 in the Class 2A tournament. Hannah Chipman, of Grapeland, is tied for seventh with an 85.

The 2A tournament is being held on the 5,018-yard par 71 Roy Kizer Golf Course.

Taylor Tomlinson of Christoval leads the medalist race with a 76. She is followed by Maycee Blaydes of Memphis and Razyl Yanez of Forsan, who both carded 77s.

Memphis leads the team race with a 343, followed by Forsan (348) and Wellington (368). Grapeland is tied with Hamilton for fourth with a 378. Martin’s Mill is ninth with a 430.

Other Grapeland scores were: Jenna Lawrence (91), Madelyn Conner (98), Carly Parker (104) and Callie Richbourg (137).

Sarah Dillard led Martin’s Mill with a 94. Other Lady Mustang golfers were: Macy Davis (104), Ashlyn Wright (109), Mackenzie Phillips (123) and Julianna Grapevine (127).

In Class 4A, Texarkana Pleasant Grove’s Hannah Halton is sixth after carding a 79 on the 5,772-yard par 72 Slick Rock Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay in Marble Falls. Spring Hill’s Zoe Mayfield shot an 81.

Abilene Wylie’s Maddi Olson topped the field with a 2-under 70. She is followed by Brooke Irion of Bridgeport and Rachel Huffman of Andrews, who shot 76s.

Andrews Black leads the team race with a 334 and Andrews Gold is second at 355. Seminole is third at 357. Mabank is seventh with a 381 with Lufkin Hudson tied for ninth with a 396, along with Bridgeport. Spring Hill is 12th at 416.

The Mabank team consists of Haley Mashburn (88), Elizabeth Hardy (89), Kathryne German (100), Macy Brockman (104) and Hanna Smith (104).

Hudson golfers include: Murphy McDermot, 86; Rachael Green, 87; Brittany Ferrara, 105; Victoria Lopez, 118; and Elizabeth Bowman, 130.

Other Spring Hill golfers are Tyler Newman (102), J’Dee Stovall (103) and Madison Philbrick (130).

At Lions Municipal Golf Course, where the Class 1A tourney is being held, Blanket leads with a 382, followed by Utopia (392) and Tioga (404). Richards’ Skylar Mast leads the medalist race with a 78. Shaley Goad of Briscoe Fort Elliott is second with an 80, while Blanket’s Marki Kinkade and Utopia’s Mikaela Loman are tied for third with 81s.

The Class 5A tournament is being held at Wolfdancer Golf Club in Bastrop. Magnolia leads with a 319, one stroke ahead of Grapevine. Humble Kingwood Park is third at 326.

Magnolia’s Halle Whitney is leading the medalist race with a 71. She is followed by Mission Sharyland’s Laura Rodriguez (73) and Mansfield Lake Ridge’s Caitlyn Lindell (74). Texas High’s Kasey Kane is tied for fourth with a 75.

Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown is hosting the 6A event.

Lake Travis tops the field with a 288. Allen is second at 295, followed by Austin Westlake (297).

Ellie Szeryk of Allen leads the medalist race with a 65. She is followed by Kaitlyn Papp of Lake Travis (67) and Jackie Berry of Humble Kingwood (69).

The second and final round is Tuesday.

The boys tournament is scheduled for May 22-23.
