Liberty-Eylau tips Brownsboro, 50-49
LONGVIEW β Brownsboro saw its season end on a put back off an errant shot with 8.3 seconds left in the contest as Liberty-Eylau defeated the Bears 50-49 in a Class 3A Region II area game of the playoffs at Pine Tree High School.
Davonte Givensβ shot at the buzzer was no good and the Leopards celebrated.
Liberty-Eylau will face Kilgore next week in the regional quarterfinals.
Trailing 49-48, Liberty-Eylau worked the ball around and the Bears forced an off balance 3-point attempt, but the shot was short as Kwan Curry rebounded and converted a layup for a 50-49 advantage.
Brownsboro had surged ahead in the fourth period thanks a superb shooting performance from Blake Ralson, who hit three consecutive 3-pointers to give the Bears a 45-43 advantage with 5:03 left in the game. Ralson scored the Bearsβ last points of the contest with 4:04 left in basket for a 49-46 advantage.
The Bears jumped out early on the Leopards with Givens scoring 11 of his game-high 23 points in the first period as the Bears led 16-9 after the first quarter.
Brownsboro received nine points and five rebounds from Patrick McCarthy and Jared Bragdon recorded six rebounds. Ralson finished with 17 points.
Liberty-Eylau was led in scoring by P.J. Muldrew with 16 points and Curry with 10 points and nine rebounds.
