Paris sweeps Tyler in hoops doubleheader

PARIS — Paris Junior College hit nine 3-pointers in the second half to break open a close game as the Dragons scored a 72-56 Region XIV basketball win over Tyler Junior College on Wednesday.

Eddie Leal led the Dragons (14-14, 8-9) with 18 points on six 3-pointers.

Ta’Jon Welcome paced the Apaches (19-7, 10-6) with 25 points.

After a halftime tie of 33-33, the Dragons outscored the Apaches 39-23 in the second half.

TJC returns to action on Saturday, hosting Bossier Parish at 4 p.m. at Wagstaff Gymnasium. Paris travels to Athens to meet Trinity Valley.

TJC women lose sixth straight

PARIS — The Apache Ladies saw their losing skid go to six games as Paris Junior College scored a 49-32 win over Tyler Junior College on Wednesday in a Region XIV women’s basketball game.

Voché Martin led the Lady Dragons (9-17, 4-10) with 14 points. Kelsei Ewings added 12 points.

TJC (10-17, 3-11 Region XIV) was led by Shernise Robertson’s 10 points. Carolina Lopez added seven.

The Apache Ladies play host to the Stephen F. Austin JV at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wagstaff Gymnasium. Paris plays host to San Jacinto on Monday.

In other women’s games on Wednesday, Trinity Valley 71, Angelina 59; Blinn 72, Blinn 61; and Jacksonville 72, San Jacinto 56.
