UT Tyler edges Louisiana College

PINEVILLE, La. — The UT Tyler men’s basketball team finished out its 2012-13 regular season with a 92-91 win over American Southwest Conference opponent Louisiana College on Saturday. Five differen Patriots scored in double-digits in the win.

UT Tyler (18-7, 13-6) fought back to take the win and finish second in the ASC East. The game featured 13 ties in a closely contested contest.

Billy Hopson and Travis Dykman led UT Tyler with 17 points apiece, while Darren Houliston scored 15.

Tyler Hysell added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Tre Potter also finished in double-digits with 12 points.

UT Tyler will now head to Richardson on Friday to take on ASC-West third-place finisher Hardin-Simmons in the first round of the ASC Tournament.

As far as the women, UT Tyler will return home to prepare for the American Southwest Conference Tournament after dropping the final game of the regular season on Saturday, 84-66, to nationally ranked Louisiana College.

The Patriots’ (17-8) will enter the conference tournament as the East Division’s No. 3 seed and will face Concordia, the No. 2 seed from the West Division, in the first round of the tournament on Friday in Brownwood.

Brittany King posted a double-double for the Patriots in the loss, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 boards.

Taylor Murphy led the team with 17 points and Teylor Seals added 12.

Louisiana College jumped out to a commanding lead and took a 41-26 lead into the half. Paced by 39 points from the bench, the Lady Cats’ maintained the lead for the remainder of the game to claim their fourth consecutive ASC East title. Neka Jones led all scorers with 18 points for LC.
