Boys Basketball: John Tyler falls short to Lufkin in home opener, 67-55

The Lufkin Panthers gradually pulled away to spoil the John Tyler home basketball opener Tuesday at the Lions Den.

Kevonte Hunts led the Panthers with 14 points in a 67-55 win over the Lions.

JT was led by DaeCorian Jessie, a 6-2 senior, who had 20 points and seven rebounds. Darry Moore, a 6-5 junior forward, added 15 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Three other Panthers were in double figures - Jaylon Young (12), Jackson Parks (12) and Natron Wortham (11).

Hunts also had nine rebounds.

JT visits Dallas Spruce on Friday and returns home for a Nov. 21 afternoon game with Palestine.

The Panthers play host to Tyler Lee at 3 p.m. Monday.
