John Tyler head football coach Ricklan Holmes was elected to serve on the board of directors for the Texas High School Coaches Association.

He was nominated by Longview head football coach John King.

The announcement was made during the annual THSCA Coaching School and Convention in Houston.

Holmes responded through Twitter and Instagram after hearing the news.

“This opportunity is surprising and greatly appreciated,” Holmes said.

In his five years as coach of the Lions, Holmes has gone 51-15 and led JT to the Class 5A state semifinals twice (2012, 14) and reached the third round last season in its first season back in Class 6A.

Last year, Athens’ Paul Essary and Henderson’s Phil Castles were on the board for Region 6.
