Football: No. 1 Carthage thumps Huffman Hargrave in bi-district

JASPER - Jacorey Ware had three interceptions, Keaontay Ingram had three touchdowns and Carthage scored three times in just over a minute Thursday night to open the postseason.

That was all in the first half.

Carthage overcame a slow start and posted 26 second-quarter points en route to a 46-10 thumping of Huffman Hargrave in a Class 4A, Division I, Region II bi-district football contest at Bulldog Stadium.

With the win, Carthage (11-0) advances to the area round for the 11th-straight season and awaits the winner of Brazosport and Houston Worthing, who meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hopper Field in Freeport.

Ware added his fourth interception of the night and eighth on the season for the Carthage defense, which held Hargrave (4-5) to 28 yards in the first half. The Falcons added 104 rushing yards in the second half.

Ingram finished with 150 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns for Carthage, who led 6-3 after the first quarter.

Gunner Capps went for 195 yards through the air on 13 for 26 passing with one interception and two touchdowns, both going to Dee Bowens on scoring hauls of 17 and 11 yards. Bowens finished with six catches for 85 yards.

Mekhi Colbert rounded out the scoring with a 31-yard touchdown run.
