NACOGDOCHES - Turnovers proved costly for the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs, and Laâ€™Javius Harper proved to be money for the West Rusk Raiders, as his two touchdown runs and a touchdown pass led the way for West Rusk in its 42-7 win over Corrigan-Camden in a Class 3A Division II bi-district football game at Dragon Stadium Thursday night.
West Rusk (9-1) advances to the area round to meet Buffalo, a 35-19 winner Corsicana Mildred, next week in the area round.
West Rusk scored its first points of the night with 9:36 to go in the first quarter. DJ Hartâ€™s 40-yard kickoff return was followed up by a 3-yard touchdown run by Jaylon Garland. Levi Hughesâ€™ kick was good, making it 7-0 Raiders.
Corrigan responded with just under two minutes left in the quarter on a Dohn Freeman 1-yard run followed by a Zack Ivie kick to knot the score at 7-7.
The Raiders regained the lead with just under 12 minutes to go in the second on a 34-yard Hart touchdown run to make it 14-7. One minute later, a Dylan Walker fumble recovery set up at 25-yard pass from Harper to Walker to increase the West Rusk lead to 21-7.
Darrien Johnson got in on the action for the Raiders with 8:45 to go in the second when he recovered a fumble and ran it back 47 yards for a score to make it 28-7. Harperâ€™s 15-yard touchdown run with just over a minute left in the quarter left Corrigan trailing 35-7 at the half.
Harper scored the final points of the night on a 6-yard run with just under nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter to bring the final to 42-7 Raiders.
Leading the way for West Rusk were Hart, with five carries for 92 yards, and Harper who had four carries for 50 yards and was 10 for 13 passing for 137 yards.
Notables for Corrigan were Ty Love, with 25 carries for 136 yards, and Freeman who had seven carries for 45 yards.
