EMORY - Logan Green scored on a 1-yard run with 57 seconds left and Joaquin Barcenas broke a 20-20 tie with the extra point as Wolfe City defeated Union Grove 21-20 Thursday in their Class 2A Division I Region III bi-district playoff at Wildcat Stadium.

Union Grove (7-4) led 20-14 in the third quarter following a 70-yard touchdown pass from Mikie Webb to Wesley Atkinson. But the extra point was blocked by Wolfe City’s Jacob Pack.

Wolfe City (9-2) still trailed late in the fourth quarter and faced a fourth-and-9 from Union Grove’s 26. Green lofted a pass deep to Dylan Wilson, who made the first-down reception by outmuscling three Lions defenders for the catch at the 1-yard line.

Green scored the game-tying TD after that and Barcenas kicked Wolfe City into the area round where the Wolves will next face the winner San Augustine and Deweyville next week.

Webb led Union Grove’s offense with 16 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown while also delivering the 70-yard scoring strike to Atkinson. Dylan Borden rushed 12 times for 79 yards and a score.

Wolfe City’s Devonte Brown carried 21 times for 124 yard and Dylan Wilson rushed 18 times for 83 yards.
