Texas College earns first victory of the season, defeats Texas Wesleyan 21-11

Texas College celebrated homecoming with a victory on the gridiron Saturday night.

Quarterback Sean Stell came up with big pass plays and the Steers’ defense had stellar play as Texas College gave first-year coach Charles Moss his first collegiate win, a 21-11 victory over Texas Wesleyan on a moonlit Saturday night at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

While it was a joyous homecoming for TC, it was not for Joe Prud’homme, a native Tylerite who has built the TWU program from the ground up in the Rams return to football for the first time since 1941.

Still, Prud’homme enjoyed brining his team to the Rose City where his father, Dr. Joe Prud’homme, still resides. Prud’homme was an all-sports star at Bishop Gorman and led the Crusaders to the state football finals in his first year as a head coach when he was 23.

The Steers jumped out to a 21-3 first-half lead thanks to three TD tosses from Stell. The senior from Fresno, California, threw touchdown passes to Ronald Harris (65 yards), Dyamond Woods (10) and Reginald Hardison (22).

Stell completed five passes for an average of 36 yards per completion. Harris had two catches for 103 yards, including a breakaway 65-yard dash.

Stell threw for 180 yards.

The Steers defense held the Rams from Fort Worth to 210 yards. Also, Patrick Petty snagged an interception.

The Steers improve to 1-5 on the season and 1-3 in Central States Football League play. The Rams fall to 0-6 and 0-3.

TC hits the road next week, traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to meet Langston in a 2 p.m. Saturday contest.

TC NOTES: The Texas College cheerleaders wore pink ribbons for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The flag drill team wore pink shirts and had pink flags.
