Ty Crayton, Bullard High School’s standout wide receiver and cornerback, has been named the American State Bank Player of the Week, Tim Haugh, ASB vice president, announced on Tuesday.

Crayton was honored for Week 5 of the high school football season.

Despite falling to Center 39-35, the Bullard Panthers kept the game competitive with a lot of help from Crayton, who finished the night with 11 catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns to go along with five carries for 78 yards and another TD.

Others receiving votes from all of the nominations received were: Frankston running back Taylor McKenzie, Van safety Ridge Preston and John Tyler linebacker Tre Allison.

Bullard athletic director and head football coach Scott Calloway had this to say about his talented receiver: “Ty is just an outstanding young man. He is really showing the underclassman what it means to have senior leadership. He just never comes off the field. We nearly pulled out the win and with the help of his teammates, Ty put together a great night and we are thrilled that he is being recognized for his efforts.”

Added Haugh, “I’ve seen Crayton play a few times and he is just a solid, well-rounded football player. The voting was close this week, but Ty beat out some good competition this week to win our award. Bullard is in a really tough district again this season, but they are competing very well against some stout competition.”

Bullard (1-4, 0-1 District 9-4A Division I) has a bye this week before returning to play on Oct. 13 when the Panthers visit Palestine.

Previous winners include:

Week 1: Isaiah Haggerty, wide receiver, Bishop Gorman

Week 2: Garrett Moseley, quarterback, Van

Week 3: Quindarius Johnson, running back, Winona
