Latu Maile is going from an Apache to a Cowboy.
The Tyler Junior College sophomore defensive lineman signed with Oklahoma State on Monday, TJC football coach Danny Palmer said.
“It’s sad for TJC but good for Latu and Oklahoma State,” Palmer said. “Oklahoma State is getting a fine young man. As a junior college that’s what it’s all about - getting our players to the next level.”
Maile, whose older brother Mote Maile played at TJC and OSU, will be in Stillwater, Oklahoma, this week for practice. The Cowboys needed depth after a Snow College signee did not report for fall camp and left the program, according to gopokes.com.
“Latu took care of his classroom work and was a great kid for us,” Palmer said. “With his good grades and work ethic, it made him attractive to Division I schools.”
TJC’s fall camp begins Aug. 5.
