2013 Preseason Dream Team is unveiled

The 2013 Preseason Dream Team was comprised from a joint effort by the sports staffs of the Tyler Morning Telegraph/ETFinalScore.com and ETVarsity.com to produce a list of the top players to look out for in the upcoming season.

The Dream Team.

The Offensive MVP is senior quarterback Patrick Mahomes from Whitehouse and the Defensive MVP is senior linebacker Josh Walker from Gilmer. Each took part in a question and answer session, so we could find out a little more about them.

Offensive MVP: Patrick Mahomes

By the Numbers: Patrick Mahomes, son of former major leaguer Pat Mahomes, is a three-sport star at Whitehouse. He has committed to play both baseball and football at Texas Tech. Mahomes led the 2012 Wildcat offense that averaged 44 points a game. He connected on 237 of 418 pass attempts for 3,839 yards and 46 touchdowns. He also had 258 yards rushing with six TDs. He is a Dave Campbell Texas Football Super Team selection.

Defensive MVP: Josh Walker

Position: Linebacker

By the Numbers: Walker was the Longview News-Journal’s All-East Texas Defensive Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore in 2011 after finishing with 130 tackles, nine sacks, an interception, four forced fumbles and 17 quarterback pressures. He gave a verbal pledge to Texas A&M before his junior season and helped lead the Buckeyes to the Class 3A Division II state championship game by racking up 124 tackles, 33 quarterback pressures, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, eight sacks and one defensive TD.
