GROESBECK - The Groesbeck Goats rallied in the fourth quarter to score a 24-21 victory over the Bullard Panthers on Friday night at Groesbeck Stadium.
Bullard (0-2) took a 14-11 halftime lead with quarterback Cleet Bowman hitting Ty Crayton for a 78-yard TD toss and Luke Bowman running three yards for a score. Will McCowin hit both PATs.
Tristen Shewmake scored on a 29-yard run in the third quarter as the Panthers led 21-11 after McCowin’s extra point.
The Goats (2-0) scored 13 points in the final period to register the win. They avenged last year’s 45-12 loss to Bullard.
Cleet Bowman connected on 18 of 26 passing attempts for 276 yards and a TD. Luke Bowman led Bullard in rushing with 70 yards and a TD on 10 carries. Crayton had six catches for 165 yards and a TD. Colton Bowman had five receptions for 58 yards.
Defensively, Landry Lasseter had seven tackles to pace Bullard with Brody Mullican adding six stops. Luke Bowman, Thomas Brooks and Steven Hibbard each had five tackles. Kele Leachman had two tackles for loss with Luke Bowman, Hibbard and Nicholas Hooley adding one apiece. Luke Bowman also had a fumble recovery.
Bullard visits Brownsboro on Friday, while Groesbeck goes to Mexia.
