BULLARD - Mount Vernon played keep away from Brook Hill and handed the Guard their first loss in a frustrating 21-6 game Friday at Herrington Stadium.
Guard senior quarterback Hood Taylor passed for 108 yards and rushed for 50 yards and a score, but it wasn’t enough to prevent what coach Scott Ryle called “a slow and methodical” Mount Vernon.
Brook Hill trailed 6-0 at halftime. Taylor scored on a six-yard run in the third quarter, but the Guard couldn’t get the ball back until Mount Vernon went ahead 21-6.
The visiting Tigers churned out 261 yards of offense, most of it on the ground, and drained the clock.
