Brook Hill's French, Yeager turn in top-10 finishes at TAPPS 5A state golf tournament

KILLEEN - Bullard Brook Hill’s Emma French and Jacob Yeager finished seventh and eighth, respectively, at the TAPPS 5A state golf championships on Tuesday at Stonetree Golf Club.

French fired a two-day 170 (84-86) to lead the Lady Guard to a seventh-place finish as a team.

Yeager shot 80-71-151 to finish in the top ten on the boys side. Teammate Logan Mimms was three strokes behind in 11th place.

All Saints’ Colton Cavender was in a tie for 14th place after finishing his two rounds with a 15-over 159.

Grace Community’s Christopher Wilhelmi rounded out the Tyler golfers with a 161 for 21st-place finish.

Midland Christian won the girls team title with a two-day total of 738, followed by Fort Worth Christian (766), San Antonio TMI (777) and San Antonio Cornerstone (796). Brook Hill shot 875.

Austin Hyde Park’s Madison Goldberg fired a 77-71-148 to win medalist honors by three strokes.

Also competing for the Lady Guard were Morgan Carpenter (225), Lori Wise (231), Kaylee Lambert (249) and Sydney McNeel (258).

Midland Christian also won the boys team title, shooting 310-305-615 to win by five strokes over Houston Second Baptist. Laredo St. Augustine was six strokes back of Second Baptist in third.
