The Tyler Junior College basketball teams hit the road on Wednesday for conference contests.
The Apache Ladies will travel north to meet Paris, while the Apaches will travel south to take on San Jacinto.
For the Apaches, ranked No. 19 in the latest NJCAA poll, it could be the last regular-season meeting with old rival San Jacinto College in Pasadena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
This is the final season of basketball for the historic San Jac program as the school’s board of regents elected to drop all sports with the exception of baseball and softball.
TJC and San Jac could still meet in the postseason.
The Apaches enter the contest at 14-1 overall and 4-1 in Region XIV conference, while the Ravens are 8-7 and 1-4.
TJC has five players averaging in double figures, led by standout point guard Brian Warren at 14.7 points per game. Following Warren are Micah Thomas (14.1 ppg), Ti-Andre Jackson-Young (13.1), Cameron Johnson (11.0) and Tajuan Agee (10.2). Desmond Balentine is near the magic mark at 9.7.
Trenton Sandifer leads in rebounding at 6.5, followed by Agee (6.1), Thomas (5.2) and Edra Luster (4.9).
When Warren and Balentine aren’t scoring they are dishing out some assists at a rate of 6.1 and 4.4, respectively.
Guard Kabir Mohammed leads the Ravens with an average of 12.4 points per game.
Other men’s games on Wednesday include: Navarro (12-3, 3-2) at Lee (7-9, 1-4), 7 p.m.; Paris (13-1, 3-1) at Angelina (10-6, 2-3), 7 p.m.; Trinity Valley (14-2, 5-0) at Blinn (10-4, 2-3), 7 p.m.; Bossier Parish (12-3, 5-0) at Lamar State-Port Arthur (6-8, 0-4), 7 p.m.; and Kilgore (10-4, 2-3) at Coastal Bend (7-5, 2-3), 7:30 p.m.
Jacksonville (11-5, 1-4) plays host to Panola (10-5, 3-2) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
TJC will return to Tyler on Saturday to face Coastal Bend at 4 p.m. at Wagstaff Gymnasium.
The Apache Ladies will try to snap a three-game skid when they play Paris Junior College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Paris.
TJC is 8-7 overall and 2-3 in league play, while Paris is 7-8 and 1-3.
Other games on Wednesday include: Kilgore (10-4, 4-1) at Bossier Parish (6-10, 2-4); Trinity Valley (14-1, 4-1) at Panola (11-3, 3-2); and Coastal Bend (3-13, 0-5) at Blinn (8-7, 2-4).
Four Apache Ladies are averaging in double figures, led by Trelynn Tyler at 16.8. She is followed by Djhai Patterson-Ricks (14.2), Keyneso Hunter (13.5) and Kierra Bimzy (13.2).
Hunter is averaging a double-double as she is grabbing 12.9 rebounds per game.
TJC will return home on Saturday to face Panola at 2 p.m. at Wagstaff Gymnasium.
