TJC, Jacksonville meet in basketball

Two old basketball rivals - Jacksonville College and Tyler Junior College - tangle on Wednesday at TJC’s Wagstaff Gymnasium.

The women’s teams are scheduled to play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.


Apache Ladies coach Trenia Tillis Hoard is nearing a milestone in her 18th season as head coach at TJC. The former Grapeland High School and Stephen F. Austin State University star has a career record of 398-166.

TJC is 6-3 on the season and 1-1 in Region XIV Conference play.

Jacksonville is 6-2 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Other games on Wednesday include: Angelina (9-2, 3-0) at Bossier Parish (4-5, 2-1); Trinity Valley (12-0, 2-0) at San Jacinto (9-3, 1-2); Blinn (6-4, 1-2) at Panola (8-2, 1-2); and Paris (5-5, 0-2) at Coastal Bend (2-10, 0-3). All the games have scheduled 5:30 p.m. tipoffs.

Following Wednedsay’s game, the Apache Ladies have two more games before the Christmas break. TJC plays host to Bossier Parish at 2 p.m. Saturday and East Texas Baptist JV at 5 p.m. Monday.


TJC coach Mike Marquis is in his 30th year of coaching, including his 17th as Apaches mentor. He has a career record of 576-288 and 306-181 at TJC.

The Apaches enter the game with the Jaguars at 10-1 overall and 1-1 in Region XIV. Jacksonville is 9-2 and 1-1.

Other games on Wednesday include: Angelina (8-3, 1-1) at Trinity Valley (10-2, 2-0), 7 p.m.; Lamar State-Port Arthur (4-6, 0-2) at Navarro (8-2, 1-1), 7 p.m.; San Jacinto (7-4, 1-1) at Paris (9-0, 2-0), 7 p.m.; Lee (0-7, 0-2) at Kilgore (8-2, 1-1), 7 p.m.; and Blinn (7-2, 1-1) at Bossier Parish (8-2, 2-0), 7:30 p.m.

After Wednesday’s game, the Apaches will not play again until Dec. 31, a noon game against Houston Community College at Wagstaff.
