ALEDO — The Bullard Brook Hill Guard’s season came to an abrupt halt on Tuesday night, taking a 62-60 loss at the hands of the Lubbock Christian Eagles at the Aledo High School Gymnasium in the TAPPS 3A regional playoffs.
Brook Hill’s Grant Hanks pumped in a game-high 31 points but it would not be enough as the 3-pointers from the Eagles proved to be the difference maker.
Trailing 30-22 at the half, Lubbock Christian went long-distance with five third-quarter 3-pointers to take a 43-41 lead with one period left.
Tanner Schroder hit his fifth 3-pointer to tie the game up at 46-46 before Drew Thornton’s old-fashioned three-point play made it a 49-46 Eagles lead.
Three lead changes later, another Schroder trey made it a 58-50 LC lead that would come down to late baskets from West Reddell and Evan McCullough to ice the win.
Hanks scored 24 of his points in the second half.
The Guard appeared ready to run away with the game early on shooting to a 9-3 lead behind baskets from Hanks, Alex Hale and Jake Anderson.
Senior Andrew Swink stepped in off the bench and scored eight points in the first half as the Guard took a 30-22 lead at the intermission.
Schroder and Maddox then zeroed in on 3-pointers and Lubbock Christian played tough inside down the stretch to ice the win.
Schroder finished up with 22-points while Thornton made 19 points. Maddox added in 13 points.
The Guard ended their season with a 19-12 mark. Lubbock Christian (26-8) will advance to the TAPPS 3A state tournament on Friday in Mansfield.
