BULLARD — BullardBrook Hill put ten players in the scorebook and unleashed a torrid defensive attack to ease to a 83-52 TAPPS 3A area playoff win over Irving The Highlands at the Herrington Sportscenter on Saturday.

Brook Hill freshman guard Alex Hale scored four of the first 10 points for Brook Hill to for a 10-5 lead early on. Hale finished the game with 11 points, as Grant Hanks began to warm up in the second quarter with two 3-pointers and 11 points at the midway point.

The second half, Hanks and company were unstoppable as Hanks pumped in three more treys and 24 points to total out at 35 points in the game.

Hanks’ first basket made it a 18-9 score in the first quarter. Hanks’ first trey built the lead quickly for the Guard with a 32-17 advantage at the 3:44 mark before intermission.

Drew Swink came off the bench and canned two 3-pointers, the first building a 58-39 Guard lead. A Hanks trey and two Chase McDermott free throws helped the Brook Hill lead grew to 63-39 after three quarters.

Brook Hill head coach Wally Dawkins swapped out the bench in the final quarter beginning at the 5:35 mark. Putting the final icing on the cake for the Guard, junior Josh Heingartner came in for a bucket and a 80-50 lead late.

The Highlands’ Logan Brown scored his team-high 28th point before McCrary Fletcher’s NBA-range three popped the net for the 83-52 final.

“It was a total team win tonight,” Dawkins said after the win. “I think we have several kids that can score a lot of points on any given night and tonight Alex (Hale) really stepped it up early for us and then after Grant (Hanks) warmed up, they just didn’t have an answer for him.

“We had a great defensive effort from Chase McDermott, Phillip Kitt and Jake Anderson inside,” Dawkins added. “And we had several kids come in and play great tonight when they got their chance.”

The Highlands ended the season with a 21-8 record.

Brook Hill (19-11) advances to play Lubbock Christian on Tuesday, with a site and time to be determined.
