Basketball roundup, Feb. 19: Martins Mill girls earn regionals berth

CORSICANA — Martins Mill built a 17-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 50-25 win over Cayuga on Tuesday in a Class 1A Division I Region III girls quarterfinal at Corsicana High School.

The Lady Mustangs (29-5) led 33-11 at halftime.

Cheyenne Brown scored 15 points with Cassey McCoy totaling 19, thanks to five 3-pointers.

Madison Spears led Cayuga with eight points.

The Lady Mustangs move on to the regional semifinals.

Martins Mill boys down Hubbard, 66-56

CORSICANA — Martins Mill blitzed Hubbard in the fourth period to turn around their Class 1A Division I Region III bi-district playoff game and win 66-56 Tuesday at Corsicana High School.

Martins Mill (20-11) trailed 47-45 entering the fourth before outscoring Hubbard 21-9 in the fourth.

The Mustangs finished with four players in double figures, led by Dylan Weatherford’s 16 points.

Martins Mill will next face Grapeland in the area round at 7 p.m. Friday in Athens.
